|Sheridan Eugene “Gene” Blankenship, 77, of Oreana, died at 9:30 p.m., Thursday, July 16, 2015, at Aperion Care in Decatur.
A funeral service to celebrate his life will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 24, 2015, at First Christian Church, 3350 N. Macarthur Road, Decatur. Pastor Tim
Revis will officiate. Burial will take place at Macon County Memorial Park, Harristown, IL. Visitation will be held one hour prior, also in the church. Memorials
to: First Christian Church, or Argents-Oreana Fire Protection District. Tanzyus-Logan Funeral Service & Care is in charge of arrangements.
Gene was born in February of 1938, in Decatur, the son of Sheridan and Dorothy Blankenship. He attended Oglesby Grade School, then Stephen Decatur High
School and graduated in 1957. During his life, Gene worked for a Xylophone factory, as a meat cutter, and finally a Materials Specialist at Caterpillar, where he
retired from in 1992. Gene enjoyed visiting the shut-ins, the sick in hospitals and nursing homes.
Gene married Nancy Reed in 1959. He later married Sharon Boyer, and together they have shared 30 years. Along with his wife, Sharon, Gene is survived by
son, Timothy E. Blankenship; brother, Wesley Leon of Clifton, NC; granddaughters, Hanna Nicole & Haily Katherine; 4 nieces and 9 nephews; his Aunt Betty
Blankenship; five cousins; and many friends from First Christian Church, AO Fire Department and the surrounding areas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his grandparents, his ex-wife Nancy Blankenship, two cousins, and his best friend Ward Defore.
