Richard Isaac “Dick” Cornthwaite, 91, of Decatur, Sunrise in August of 1923 – Sunset in April of 2015.
Funeral service celebrating Dick’s life will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday April 18, 2015 at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church (2055 S. Franklin Street Decatur, IL. 62521)
with Pastor Michael Damery officiating. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday April 17th also at the church. Burial will be in Point Pleasant
Cemetery Long Creek, IL. Memorials may be made to the church. Tanzyus-Logan Funeral Service and Care is in charge of the arrangements.
Dick was born in Decatur the son of Bernard and Viola Cornthwaite. He graduated from Macon High School. Dick served proudly in the U.S. Air Force from
1943 to 1947 as a member of the 6th Night Fighter Squadron. He worked as a foreman and carpenter for Z & R Oil Company of Argenta. He was a member of
the Carpenters Union and was a very active member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church. He was a master craftsman woodworker and a pilot. Dick was honored
by attending the Honor Flight to Washington D.C. in 2009. Dick married Bernice Benton in August of 1978 in Decatur. She died in February of 2011.
Surviving are his children, William B. (Mary) Cornthwaite of Bradenton, FL., Susan (Bob) Pelissier of Decatur,IL., Bethe (Alan) Little of Moweaqua, IL.,
Richard (Beverly) Cornthwaite of Taylorsville, KY., Mark (Patricia) Tippit of Decatur, IL., Lori Cornthwaite and fiancée Gary Acton of Lehigh Acres, FL.,
brother, Bernard “Dean” Cornthwaite of Macon, IL., fifteen grandchildren and twenty-one great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, daughter, Sharon Richter and sister, Marjorie Workman.
