Tanya Jean Fleener, 59, of Decatur, passed away on March 20, 2015, in Symphony of Decatur, after an 8 year battle with Alzheimer’s, with her husband by her
Tanya was born in December of 1955, in Decatur, to Ray and Pricilla Arndt. She was a 1974 graduate of Stephen Decatur High School. Tanya worked in
banking from the age of 16 for Milliken Bank, Citizens Bank, and First of America Bank before finishing her career at Soy Capital Bank. Tanya was a lifelong
member of First Christian Church, singing in the church choir for 39 year, until Alzheimer’s forced her to stop. She married her soulmate, Rodney Fleener in
June of 1976.
Surviving Tanya is her husband Rodney, her daughter Heather Egger (Michael Dodd) of Decatur, and her daughter Stacey VanScyoc of Inwood, West
Virginia. Tanya is also survived by her 7 grandchildren. Tanya was an amazing wife, mother and grandmother, even as Alzheimer’s ravaged her mind and
Tanya was instrumental in reviving the Alzheimer’s Walk in Decatur, and was a great champion, raising thousands of dollars for the cause.
A memorial service celebrating her life will be Wednesday, March 25th at 10:00 a.m. at First Christian Church, 3350 N. MacArthur Rd, Decatur. Pastor Wayne
Kent will officiate. Visitation will be held Tuesday evening 5-8 at the church. Burial will be take place at a later date. Memorials gifts may be made in her honor
to the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601. Tanzyus Logan Funeral Service & Care is in charge of arrangements.
The family is requesting casual dress, and asking people to wear purple, which is the Alzheimer’s color, and was always Tanya’s favorite color.
