1933 - 2015

Janet Lee Somers, 81, of Decatur, died peacefully at 10:07 a.m., Thursday, March 5, 2015, at Decatur Memorial Hospital.

A graveside memorial service honoring her life will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, March 13, 2015, at Macon County Memorial Park in Harristown.
Memorials may be made in lieu of flowers to: The Lung Center at Decatur Memorial Hospital, 2300 N. Edward, Decatur, IL 62526, or to: Cancer Care
Specialists, 210 W. McKinley Ave, Decatur, IL 62526. Tanzyus Logan Funeral Service & Care is assisting the family with arrangements.

Janet was born in Decatur in August of 1933, to J. Lee and Evelyn Hooker. She graduated from Blue Mound High School in 1951, attended Western State
University in Macomb, as well as Richland Community College. Janet was former Treasurer, Vice President, and Trustee of A.E. Staley Women’s Club,
former President of the Executive Board of A.E. Staley Retirees Association. She was also a former member of DMH Auxiliary, as well as a past member of
Professional Secretaries International. Janet retired from A.E. Staley in August of 1988, after 29 years working as a secretary and legal assistant, law office
manager, and corporate assistant secretary.

Ms. Somers is survived by her brother, James (Amanda) Hooker of Missouri; her four children: Kreig (Nancy) Strocher of Florida, Starla (John) Cooley of
Arkansas, Kevin Strocher of Decatur, and Dawn Somers of Decatur; four grandchildren: Jaclyn Irvin of Macon, Kindra (Palmer) Ebanks and Kourtland
Strocher of Florida, Joshua Strocher of Mississippi; four great-grand children: Conner, Carson Evan, and Kendall; extended family, and countless good

In addition to her dad, J. Lee Hooker and her mom, Evelyn (Buis) Hooker Schaefer, Janet was preceded in death by her half-sister, Mary Katherine Bryan;
her first husband, Kenneth A. Strocher; and her second husband, Franklin J. Somers.

Janet’s family wishes to extend a special Thank You to Dr. Tim Miller and his staff for their years of kind service and compassion, the staff at DMH and
DMH Hospice, as well as the wonderful staff at Evergreen Place.

Janet was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, and she will live on in the hearts of those who knew her.
