WILKINSON
After a strong battle with cancer, Carolyn J. (Holmes) Wilkinson, 65, of Decatur,
went to be with the Lord on Monday, December 24, 2018 at Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Carolyn was born in February of 1953, in Illiopolis to parents Phillis and Orville
Holmes.  She had six brothers and played a huge role in their lives growing up.
Carolyn was an active member of her church, where Pastor Kirk Henneberry will be
officiating the funeral service on Saturday, December 29, 2018 at Harvest Christian
Center (2199 N. Water St., Decatur). Visitation will be from 12:00 noon to 1:00 pm with
the funeral service at 1:00 pm. Tanzyus Logan Funeral Service & Care is in charge of the
arrangements. The family requests that all attendees wear something blue as that was
Carolyn’s favorite color.
Carolyn was a very strong-willed and independent woman. She was a hard worker
who made her mark in Decatur being the first woman to work for the City of Decatur
Street Department, where she later retired.
Carolyn enjoyed spending time with her family, friends, her two dogs (Jack and Sadie
May), playing spades, and brightening a room with her contagious laugh and smile.
Carolyn (Ma) will be deeply missed by her family. Ma was the matriarch of the family, the
cook, and the listening ear for most. Her love for life, music and generosity will be
remembered forever.
Surviving are her four children: Son, Jim (Jeanne) Holmes, their two children James
and Joy Lynn of Jefferson, GA; Daughter, Lisa Staley, and two children Colton and
Amanda of Decatur; Daughter,  Brenda Sarver, and children Ryan (Shelby), Jared and
Kira, all of Decatur; and Daughter, Carrie Holderby of Decatur. She is also survived by
two great-grandchildren, Julien and Carmen; brothers, Robin Holmes, Mike Holmes,
Bobby Holmes, and Larry (Raisa) Holmes; her long-time friend Tim Bullock; and several
loved nieces and nephews.
She was preceded by her parents, and two brothers, Orville and David Holmes.
