She touched so many lives in her journey. Dorothy met and bonded with the lives of so many at Sunnyside Center
and formed life-long friendships. She was formerly employed with Steak & Shake in Decatur. She joined other
friends with the musical singing group “Heart and Soul” where she was a featured soloist singing “Jesus Loves Me.”
Heart and Soul was truly one of her passions. She loved the nurses and staff with Decatur’s Cancer Care Center. She
formed lasting relationships with them and loved to participate in the “Relay for Life” where she was part of the
relay team. Dorothy truly was a cancer survivor which she battled for 10 years. She fought a valiant fight. Dorothy
also was a very eager helper in the office at First Christian Church, an attendant with communion, and greeter with
the church.

She blessed so many lives; now it’s time for Dorothy to be blessed for eternity in the splendor of Heaven where I’m
sure she is attending to the needs of others and taking care of those little ones. We all miss you, Dorothy, and are
looking forward to that great reunion where you will have been made whole.

Dorothy is survived by sisters: Edna Porter/Penny of Vandalia, Illinois, Betty Porter/Penny of Greenville, Illinois,
and Mary Sue Porter/Warren of Florissant, Missouri; brother John Porter/Penny of Vandalia, Illinois; her mother
Mary Ann Porter, nephews – Dale Porter III and Joshua Warren, nieces – Laura Porter and Amanda Warren. She
was preceded in death by her father, Dale Porter and her brother, Dale Porter II.

The family would also like to extend special thanks to Lynette Clemmons, her nurse; Loretta Billingsley, Dorothy’s
alternate “stepmom”; and Dr. Estrada Garcia of Cancer Care. Dorothy did not know a stranger, greetings to all at
DMH.
