Helen M. Vanskike, 96, of Decatur passed away at 7:50 p.m. Tuesday June 7, 2016 at Hickory Point Christian
Village Forsyth, Illinois.
Funeral service celebrating Helen’s life will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday June 14, 2016 at St. John’s Lutheran Church,
2727 N. Union, Decatur, Illinois 62526. Pastor Russell Weise will officiate. Visitation will be one hour before
service time at the church. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Township Cemetery. Memorials if desired may be made to St.
John’s Lutheran Church. Tanzyus-Logan Funeral Service and Care is in charge of the arrangements.
Helen was born in Decatur in December of 1919, the daughter of Gustav and Anna Tanzyus. She was a lifetime
member of St. John’s Lutheran and sang in the choir. She served in the kitchen at the church and the old
Lutheran school and was a member of the friendship circle. Helen married Denzil Vanskike in October of 1944.
They both worked for the Caterpillar Military Engine Company during the war. She was a homemaker most of her
working life. Denzil “Dutch” preceded her in death in September of 1984.
Surviving are her sons: David D. Vanskike of Decatur, Danny Vanskike of Ina, Illinois, Harold Vanskike of
Lovington, Illinois, Mike Crowe of Atlanta, Georgia; sister, Ann Bray of Decatur; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers, Edward and Robert Tanzyus and sister, Millie
Helen was a great mother, sister, aunt and friend and will be greatly missed by all.
