Betty Jane Gentry, 86 of Decatur died, 3:50 pm. Saturday March 12, 2016 at Imboden Creek Living Center.
A funeral service celebrating her life will be at 11:00 AM. Wednesday March 16, 2016, at First Christian Church
(3350 N. MacArthur Road, Decatur, Illinois, 62526). Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church.
Pastor Tim Revis will officiate. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the First Christian
Church. Tanzyus-Logan Funeral Service and Care is in charge of the arrangements.
Betty was born in May of 1929 in Decatur the daughter of William Edward and Clevie James. She graduated from
Decatur High School. Betty worked for the Signal Depot during the war. She worked as a cook for Decatur Public
Schools from which she retired in 1988. She loved to cook and bake for her family and friends. She was a member
of First Christian Church and of the Golden Kiwanis Club. Betty married Curtis L. Gentry in September of 1947. He
preceded her in death in February of 2007.
Surviving are her children, James “Mike” (Judy) Gentry, Kathy (Fred) Closen, Bruce A. (Cathie) Gentry, daughter-
in-law, Kathy Gentry, grandchildren, Julie, Jody, Tammie, Melissa, Tom, Josh, David, Curtis and Kyle, eleven
great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild, special friends, Arlene Penn, Eleanor and Don Tarvin.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, Steve, brothers, Bill and Carl, sisters, Victoria, Marge,
Louise and Lucille.
The family wishes to thank the staff and residents of Tanglewood, and Imboden Creek Living Center for their care
and friendship to Betty.
Betty was a loving mother, grandmother and friend to many. She will be deeply missed.
