Roger Dale Spurlock
1940 - 2015
SPURLOCK

Roger Dale Spurlock, 75 years old, walked peacefully into the arms of Jesus on Saturday morning, October 31, 2015, at his home surrounded by his family.  

Roger was born in April of 1940, in Huntington, West Virginia to Farnum and Carma Spurlock.  During his high school years at Huntington High, Roger was an
All American High School football player.  He continued playing football at Marshall University, Huntington, West Virginia and New Mexico Highlands
University, Las Vegas, New Mexico where he met his sweetheart of 51 years, Macky Spurlock, marrying in August of 1964. At Highlands University, Roger
received his Bachelors  Degree, and while earning his Masters degree, he was the head football and track coach at Robertson High School.    Roger was
employed by the State of Illinois from 1971 until his retirement as a Mental Health Administrator in 2001. Roger also worked as a part-time family counselor
with Family Systems Center and coached with the CIGS Softball Organization.  He was a dedicated Sunday School teacher for 31 years.  Roger and Macky have
been blessed with four children, 10 grandchildren, and  a life filled with wonderful family and friends.  Roger loved people and people loved him.  He was a
gentle  giant with a non-judgmental heart, a keen sense of humor, and a charismatic spirit which impacted many lives.  Whether coaching, counseling, or
teaching Roger was passionate about seeing the best in others.

He is survived by his brother, Dr. Richard Spurlock (Lisa Barker) his wife, Macky Spurlock, and their four children:  Julie Clemens (Robert), Stephanie
Fitzpatrick-Hovey (Jonathan), Ryan Spurlock (Crystal) and Jordan Spurlock (Lauren) and 10 grandchildren, Taylor Clemens, Cole Clemens, Reilly
Fitzpatrick, Reid Fitzpatrick, Rece Fitzpatrick, Danniella Hovey, Samuel Spurlock, Charles Spurlock, Joseph Spurlock, and Emma Spurlock.  

He was preceded in death by his parents.  

Visitation and funeral services to celebrate and honor Roger's life will be held at First Christian Church with visitation scheduled Sunday, November 8, from
5:00 to 8:00 p.m. and funeral services on Monday, November 9 beginning at 11:00 a.m.  Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery Decatur, IL. Memorials may be
made to the Good Samaritan Inn 920 N. Union Street Decatur, IL. 62526.
