Gladys was born in Evansville, IL, in December of 1915, to John and Charlotte Milsark. Her strong Christian faith began at age 3, when she began singing in
church. She continued sharing her beautiful voice throughout her life until age 96, and even after that she still loved singing the familiar tunes. Faith and
family were the work and joy of her life. She married Gildas Levery, the love of her life, in January of 1939. That union produced two daughters, Sharon
(Richard) Herrmann Maddox, and Jolene Wiegard. They lived in St. Louis, MO, and then in Evansville, IL for a number of years, where they also owned and
operated a restaurant. Gladys gained a great reputation for her delicious meals and pies. Later, they resided in Macon, MO, until Gildas passed away in 1979.
Gladys then moved to Mt. Zion, IL, to be near her daughters and family. She was a very active member of Mt. Zion Presbyterian Church and choir, and served
in many church capacities. Throughout her life, Gladys inspired others with her Christian spirit, strong faith, and God-given beautiful soprano voice. She was
an especially loving grandmother to Robert (Jamie) Herrmann, Jr., Kip (Tiffany) Herrmann, Dawn (Jeff) Swearingen, and was like a second mother to
granddaughter, Janine (Robert) Lyons. Gladys has always been a treasure to her daughters, their spouses, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended
family and friends. What a wonderful Christian role model she has been.
Gladys is survived by her daughter, Sharon; grandchildren and their spouses; great-grandchildren: J.T. Arocha, Kevin Herrmann, Erica and Shannon Lyons,
Declan and Kallan Swearingen, Cole Herrmann, Hayleigh Lutz, and many nieces and nephews.
Gladys was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her daughter, Jolene; sisters: Eunice Milsark and Lisetta Wesbecher; brother, Elroy Milsark;
sons-in-law: Robert Wiegard and Robert Herrmann, Sr.
A very special thank you goes to Hickory Point Christian Village and staff for providing Gladys with tender loving care in a Christian environment in her later
years. Such a blessing! Thank you, also, to caring friends Donna Hord and Neta Funk for their loyal devotion.
