Gary Alan Patterson, 79, of Decatur, joined his Savior, Jesus Christ, in Heaven on Saturday, March 7, 2015.
The son of William F. and Maxine Patterson, he was born in Decatur, IL, in January of 1936. His career included time as a camera man for WAND TV in the
50’s and 60’s, and with Kemper Insurance, and he retired from employment with the State of Illinois after 26 years of service. A veteran of the US Marine
Corps, Gary held a deep passion for his country. Deeply devoted to his wife and six children, many of his interests were centered around the home, including:
gardening, cooking, crosswords, computers, and watching the Cubs on WGN. He was married to the love of his life, Maribeth, for 48 years.
Surviving Gary are his wife, Maribeth; daughter, Laura Harris (David), of Pryor, OK; son, Eric Patterson of Rincon, GA; son, Michael Patterson (Deedee) of
Decatur, IL; son, James Patterson (Mari) of Kernersville, NC; son, Daniel Patterson (Michelle) of Decatur, IL; daughter, Christina Patterson of Decatur, IL;
and four grandchildren: Morgan, Cooper, Andrew, and Elizabeth.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, David of Bloomington, IL, and one granddaughter, Erin.
The family would like to thank the caring staff at Hickory Point Christian Village for their services.
A memorial service to celebrate Gary’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 12, 2015, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 1 Bachrach Ct., Decatur.
Pastor Wray Offerman will officiate. There will be no visitation, and burial will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations
to the Lutheran School Association, 2001 E. Mound Road, Decatur, IL, 62526. Tanzyus-Logan Funeral Service & Care is in charge of arrangements.
